A reflection on Surah Al-Mulk 67:15 - Allah's (SWT) instruction to seek provision from the earth while never forgetting the final return to Him.
Surah Al-Mulk now turns from Allah's knowledge to His provision, offering a balance between working for a livelihood and remembering what all of it is ultimately for.
A Manageable Earth, a Coming Return
Allah (SWT) says:
هُوَ ٱلَّذِى جَعَلَ لَكُمُ ٱلْأَرْضَ ذَلُولًا فَٱمْشُوا۟ فِى مَنَاكِبِهَا وَكُلُوا۟ مِن رِّزْقِهِۦ ۖ وَإِلَيْهِ ٱلنُّشُورُ
"It is He who made the earth tame1 for you - so walk among its slopes and eat of His provision - and to Him is the resurrection." (Surah Al-Mulk 67:15)
The earth is made dhalul - soft, stable, and manageable - so that people can live, travel, and work upon it. This is not a call to withdraw from the world, but the surah is careful to close the ayah with a reminder: "and to Him is the Resurrection." Material blessing is not the end of the story; it is a test of gratitude and responsibility.
Gratitude in the Ordinary
We try to model this balance for our students - working hard, whether in Hifz or in their broader studies, without losing sight of why. Even something as ordinary as travelling from home to the academy each day can become a small act of gratitude when it is noticed rather than taken for granted.
May Allah (SWT) make our provision a means to gratitude, never a distraction from Him. Ameen.
