Surah An-Nasr 110:1 - victory belongs to Allah, and why that keeps a believer's effort sincere rather than self-congratulatory.
Surah An-Nasr opens by naming exactly where victory comes from, and it is not left ambiguous. At Darus Saulieghien Quraan Academy we use this ayah to correct a subtle mistake believers can slip into: crediting success to effort alone.
Victory, Named as His
إِذَا جَآءَ نَصْرُ ٱللَّهِ وَٱلْفَتْحُ
"When the victory of Allah has come and the conquest." (Surah An-Nasr 110:1)
Effort matters, and Allah (SWT) commands it, but the ayah is clear that the outcome itself belongs to Him: "And victory is not but from Allah, the Almighty, the All-Wise." (Surah Al-Imran 3:126) "If Allah helps you, none can overcome you. But if He abandons you, who else can help you after Him?" (Surah Al-Imran 3:160)
Teaching Students to Hold This Balance
A student who works hard and seals a surah should feel proud of the effort, and should also recognise that the ability to succeed, the memory to retain, the opportunity to learn, none of it was owed. We remind our students that seeing success as Allah's (SWT) help rather than proof of one's own greatness is what keeps effort sincere rather than self-congratulatory.
