A reflection on Surah Ash-Sharh 94:7 - why Allah (SWT) commands continued effort immediately after promising ease, not rest.
It might be expected that a surah promising repeated ease would end by telling the believer to rest. Surah Ash-Sharh does the opposite, and at Darus Saulieghien Quraan Academy this is a lesson we return to whenever a student finishes one milestone and is tempted to slow down.
Finish One Task, Begin Another
Allah (SWT) says:
فَإِذَا فَرَغْتَ فَانصَبْ ٧
"So when you have finished [your duties], then stand up [for worship]." (Surah Ash-Sharh 94:7)
Immediately after two ayat guaranteeing ease, Allah (SWT) commands continued effort. Finishing one task is not an invitation to stop; it is a signal to begin the next. This matches the same principle already central to how we build our Hifz curriculum.
Consistency Over Comfort
The Prophet (SAW) said: "The most beloved deeds to Allah are those that are done consistently, even if they are small." (Sahih al-Bukhari 6465; Sahih Muslim 783) A student who completes a juz should not treat it as a finish line, but as the platform for the next one. Ease from Allah (SWT) is not a reason to pause effort; it is often what makes the next stage of effort possible.
We try to teach our students this rhythm directly, celebrate the milestone, and then, without delay, begin the next portion, exactly as this ayah instructs.
