A reflection on Surah Ash-Sharh 94:8 - why the surah closes with a single instruction to direct all longing toward Allah (SWT) alone.
After expansion, relief, honour, and repeated promises of ease, Surah Ash-Sharh closes with a single line that gathers everything before it into one direction. At Darus Saulieghien Quraan Academy, we treat this closing ayah as the summary of the whole surah's message.
Every Longing, One Direction
Allah (SWT) says:
وَإِلَىٰ رَبِّكَ فَارْغَب ٨
"And to your Lord direct [your] longing." (Surah Ash-Sharh 94:8)
After every hardship carried, every burden lifted, every effort completed, the heart's longing is meant to settle in one place: Allah (SWT) alone. Success, relief, and honour are not ends in themselves, they are signs pointing the heart back toward the One who granted them.
A Heart Mindful of Its Lord
The Prophet (SAW) said: "Be mindful of Allah, and He will protect you. Be mindful of Allah, and you will find His help and support before you. Remember Allah in times of ease, and He will care for you in times of hardship." (Jami' al-Tirmidhi 2516) This closing ayah of Surah Ash-Sharh reads almost like the practical outcome of that hadith, a heart that stays turned toward its Lord in every state, ease or hardship.
We hope our students finish their Hifz journey with exactly this posture, not longing for the achievement itself, but for the One who made it possible.
