A reflection on Surah Al-Mulk 67:20 - the Qur'an's challenge to whatever we lean on instead of Allah (SWT).
Surah Al-Mulk asks a series of direct questions of the reader, each designed to strip away false confidence. At Darus Saulieghien Quraan Academy, we find these questions useful to sit with, not only recite.
A Question With No Answer
أَمَّنْ هَـٰذَا ٱلَّذِى هُوَ جُندٌ لَّكُمْ يَنصُرُكُم مِّن دُونِ ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنِ ۚ إِنِ ٱلْكَـٰفِرُونَ إِلَّا فِى غُرُورٍ ٢٠
"Or who is it that could be an army for you to aid you other than the Most Merciful? The disbelievers are not but in delusion." (Surah Al-Mulk 67:20)
The verse asks who could possibly defend a person against Allah's decree, or aid them without Him. There is no answer, because there is none. Whatever we place our trust in instead, wealth, connections, status, cannot act independently of Allah's (SWT) will.
Where Real Security Lies
This is not a call to abandon effort or planning. It is a correction of where our trust ultimately rests. A student may prepare diligently for a revision, a family may plan carefully for the future, but the outcome always remains with Allah (SWT) alone.
We try to teach our students this balance: work with full effort, and place trust in the One who alone can truly help, not in the effort itself as though it guarantees the result.
May Allah (SWT) be the true reliance of our students and their families in every matter, seen and unseen, and may He never leave them to depend on anything but Him. Ameen.
