A reflection on Surah Al-Mulk 67:21 - recognising that every provision in our lives ultimately comes from Allah (SWT) alone.
Provision is easy to take for granted until it is threatened. Surah Al-Mulk asks its reader to consider that possibility directly, and in doing so, redirects our gratitude to its true source. This is a lesson we hope stays with our students at Darus Saulieghien Quraan Academy well beyond their school years.
A Question of Provision
أَمَّنْ هَـٰذَا ٱلَّذِى يَرْزُقُكُمْ إِنْ أَمْسَكَ رِزْقَهُۥ ۚ بَل لَّجُّوا۟ فِى عُتُوٍّ وَنُفُورٍ ٢١
"Or who is it that could provide for you if He withheld His provision? But they have persisted in insolence and aversion." (Surah Al-Mulk 67:21)
The verse leaves no alternative source of sustenance to point to. If Allah (SWT) were to withhold provision, nothing else could replace it. Yet the verse also notes something sobering: many people, faced with this reality, still persist in turning away rather than turning toward Him in gratitude.
Recognising the Source
It is easy to credit a salary, an opportunity, or hard work alone for what we have, and to forget the One who made each of those means possible in the first place. This ayah asks believers to trace every provision back to its true origin.
At DSQA, we encourage our students to see even their ability to learn, to focus, to memorise, as a form of provision from Allah (SWT), not something owed to them or earned by talent alone.
May Allah (SWT) continue to provide for our students and their families in ways seen and unseen, and may He keep our hearts grateful rather than heedless. Ameen.
