A reflection on Surah Al-Mulk 67:7 - a vivid warning meant to be met with dua, not despair.
Some ayat in the Qur'an are meant to unsettle before they comfort. This one describes, without softening the image, what awaits those who reject their Lord.
A Vivid Warning
Allah (SWT) says:
إِذَآ أُلْقُوا۟ فِيهَا سَمِعُوا۟ لَهَا شَهِيقًا وَهِىَ تَفُورُ
"When they are thrown into it, they hear from it a [dreadful] inhaling while it boils up." (Surah Al-Mulk 67:7)
Those cast into it hear its fierce roar and see it boiling, almost bursting from fury. The vividness is deliberate - a reality meant to be taken seriously, not glossed over.
Answering a Warning With Dua
The Qur'an itself teaches how to respond: "Our Lord, avert from us the punishment of Hell. Indeed, its punishment is ever adhering." (Surah Al-Furqan 25:65) We encourage our students to make this dua a regular habit, not out of morbid dwelling on the Fire, but as a sincere request for protection from it, said the way the Prophet (SAW) and his companions said it - with humility, not despair.
May Allah (SWT) avert from us and our families the punishment of the Fire, and grant us Paradise instead. Ameen.
