Surah Al-Mulk moves, without softening its tone, from the beauty of the stars to a warning about where rejection of Allah (SWT) leads.
A Punishment Named Plainly
Allah (SWT) says:
وَلِلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا۟ بِرَبِّهِمْ عَذَابُ جَهَنَّمَ ۖ وَبِئْسَ ٱلْمَصِيرُ
"And for those who disbelieved in their Lord is the punishment of Hell, and wretched is the destination." (Surah Al-Mulk 67:6)
This ayah clarifies that Hell's punishment is not prepared for devils alone, but for the entirety of those who disbelieve. Read alongside the ayah before it, describing the stars as missiles against devils, the message is clear: disbelievers will have none other than the devil as their companion, since he was their sworn ally.
Seeking Refuge, Not Fear for Its Own Sake
We do not dwell on warnings like this one to frighten our students, but to build the habit the Prophet (SAW) modelled himself - regularly seeking refuge in Allah (SWT) from the whispers of Shaytan and from the punishment of the Fire. A warning taken seriously, and then answered with dua, becomes a form of protection rather than a burden.
May Allah (SWT) protect us and our students from every path that leads away from Him. Ameen.
