A reflection on Surah Al-Mulk 67:30 - the surah's final, humbling reminder about something we rarely think to be grateful for.
Surah Al-Mulk closes the way it began, drawing attention to something so ordinary that it is almost invisible to us. At Darus Saulieghien Quraan Academy, we find this final ayah a fitting note to end our reflections on the surah.
A Question About Water
قُلْ أَرَءَيْتُمْ إِنْ أَصْبَحَ مَآؤُكُمْ غَوْرًا فَمَن يَأْتِيكُم بِمَآءٍ مَّعِينٍۭ ٣٠
"Say, 'Have you considered: if your water was to become sunken [into the earth], then who could bring you flowing water?'" (Surah Al-Mulk 67:30)
Water is among the most basic and constant of blessings, so ordinary that it rarely earns a second thought. Surah Al-Mulk asks its reader to imagine that water sinking beyond reach, and then asks plainly who besides Allah (SWT) could restore it.
Ending Where the Surah Began
The surah opened by describing Allah's (SWT) dominion over all creation, and it closes by grounding that dominion in something as simple as flowing water. Nothing we depend upon, however basic, sustains itself; everything traces back to Him.
We hope our students close their study of Surah Al-Mulk with exactly this awareness: that gratitude belongs not only in moments of visible blessing, but in the water they drink, the ease they rarely notice, every single day.
