Surah Al-Ikhlas 112:3 - Allah is free from every limitation of creation, and why precise belief matters.
Surah Al-Ikhlas's third ayah removes, in a single line, every false idea people throughout history have attached to Allah (SWT), that He has children, or was born of anything. At Darus Saulieghien Quraan Academy we explain to our students why this ayah matters so directly.
Beyond Every Limitation
لَمْ يَلِدْ وَلَمْ يُولَدْ
"He neither begets nor is born." (Surah Al-Ikhlas 112:3)
To beget or be born belongs to creation, everything that begets or is born is limited, changing, dependent on time. Allah (SWT) is free of every such limitation: "No vision can encompass Him, but He encompasses all vision. For He is the Most Subtle, All-Aware." (Surah Al-An'am 6:103) The Prophet (SAW) relayed Allah's (SWT) words: "The son of Adam offends Me by abusing Time, for I am time. In My Hand are all affairs." (Sahih al-Bukhari 4826; Sahih Muslim 2246)
Why Correct Belief Matters
We remind our students that Islamic belief is precise for a reason, small distortions in understanding who Allah (SWT) is lead to large distortions in how a person worships Him. The deeper a student understands Allah's (SWT) perfection, the deeper their awe and trust grow.
