A reflection on Surah Fussilat 41:53 - the peace that comes from resting one's worth in Allah's witness rather than in people's opinions.
The constant need to be seen, validated, or praised by others can leave a person exhausted and unsure of their own worth. The Qur'an offers a different anchor entirely: being seen by Allah (SWT) is enough.
The Ultimate Witness
Allah (SWT) says:
سَنُرِيهِمْ ءَايَـٰتِنَا فِى ٱلْـَٔافَاقِ وَفِىٓ أَنفُسِهِمْ حَتَّىٰ يَتَبَيَّنَ لَهُمْ أَنَّهُ ٱلْحَقُّ ۗ أَوَلَمْ يَكْفِ بِرَبِّكَ أَنَّهُۥ عَلَىٰ كُلِّ شَىْءٍ شَهِيدٌ
"We will show them Our signs in the horizons and within themselves until it becomes clear to them that it is the truth. But is it not sufficient concerning your Lord that He is, over all things, a Witness?" (Surah Fussilat 41:53)
The Prophet (SAW) said, "Allah does not look at your appearance or wealth, but He looks at your hearts and deeds." (Sahih Muslim 2564) Every quiet effort, every restraint no one else witnessed, is seen and recorded by the One whose view is the only one that ultimately matters.
Where Real Peace Begins
We remind our students, especially as they navigate school and social pressures, that their worth does not fluctuate with people's opinions. It rests securely with Allah (SWT), and that is where genuine peace begins.
May Allah (SWT) make our students' inner state better than their outward appearance, and grant them peace in being seen by Him alone. Ameen.
