A reflection on Surah Az-Zumar 39:11 - sincerity is not optional in worship, it is the foundation that gives every act its value.
Without sincerity, even the most impressive deed is hollow. Ikhlas is not a finishing touch on worship; it is the foundation everything else is built on.
Commanded to Worship Sincerely
Allah (SWT) says:
قُلْ إِنِّىٓ أُمِرْتُ أَنْ أَعْبُدَ ٱللَّهَ مُخْلِصًا لَّهُ ٱلدِّينَ
"Say, 'Indeed, I have been commanded to worship Allah, being sincere to Him in religion.'" (Surah Az-Zumar 39:11)
A man once asked the Prophet (SAW) about someone who fights seeking both reward and fame. The Prophet (SAW) answered three times, "He will not have anything," before explaining, "Allah does not accept any deed, except that which is purely for Him, and seeking His Face." (Sunan al-Nasa'i)
The Quiet Ones Allah Loves
Many of Allah's (SWT) most beloved servants are unknown to the world, no public platform, no large audience, only quiet sincerity. We remind our students that the colleague who prays discreetly and works with excellence, or the student who stays honest under no one's watch, often carries more weight with Allah (SWT) than visible achievement ever could.
May Allah (SWT) make all our students' deeds righteous, and make them purely for His sake alone. Ameen.
