A reflection on Surah Luqman 31:26 - Allah's (SWT) absolute self-sufficiency, and what it means to build our security on Him rather than on people or possessions.
Every created thing depends on something else to survive: air, food, shelter. Allah (SWT) alone needs nothing, and understanding this one truth reshapes where a person looks for security.
Al-Ghani, the Free of Need
Allah (SWT) says:
لِلَّهِ مَا فِى ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ وَٱلْأَرْضِ ۚ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ هُوَ ٱلْغَنِىُّ ٱلْحَمِيدُ
"To Allah belongs whatever is in the heavens and earth. Indeed, Allah is the Free of need, the Praiseworthy." (Surah Luqman 31:26)
Human beings often chase validation, wealth, or recognition to feel secure, yet these are fragile and temporary. The Prophet (SAW) relayed from Allah (SWT): "O my servants, if the first of you and the last of you... were all as pious as the most pious heart among you, that would not increase My kingdom in anything." (Sahih Muslim 2577) Nothing we do adds to or subtracts from Allah's (SWT) perfection; our worship benefits only ourselves.
Roots Anchored in the Right Place
We encourage our students to think of themselves like a tree: branches may sway with the opinions of others, but roots anchored in reliance on Allah (SWT) never wither. A student's worth is not in praise received or overlooked, but in sincere service to the One who needs nothing from them at all.
May Allah (SWT) make our students independent of all but Him, and suffice them with what is lawful over what is not. Ameen.
