A reflection on Surah Al-Hashr 59:23 and the Prophet's (SAW) own words in prayer - Allah's absolute purity, free of every flaw or imperfection.
To say SubhanAllah is far more than a phrase. It is a declaration that Allah (SWT) is exalted above every imperfection creation could imagine, and this Name shapes how a believer approaches reverence in prayer.
The Pure and Perfect
Allah (SWT) describes Himself:
هُوَ ٱللَّهُ ٱلَّذِى لَآ إِلَـٰهَ إِلَّا هُوَ ٱلْمَلِكُ ٱلْقُدُّوسُ ٱلسَّلَـٰمُ
"He is Allah, other than whom there is no deity, the Sovereign, the Pure, the Perfection." (Surah Al-Hashr 59:23)
He does not tire, sleep, or falter; He is never unjust or forgetful. The Prophet (SAW) himself would say while bowing and prostrating in prayer: "Subbuh, Quddus, Rabb al-mala'ikati war-ruh" - "All Glorious, All Holy, Lord of the Angels and the Spirit." (Sahih Muslim 487)
Joining the Universal Chorus
The Qur'an tells us that all creation, mountains, oceans, every bird in the sky, glorifies Allah (SWT) in ways known only to Him. When our students recite SubhanAllah with real reflection rather than habit, they join that same chorus, acknowledging that nothing in creation compares to Him.
May Allah (SWT) accept our glorification of Him, and grant our students hearts that recognise His perfection in every moment of prayer. Ameen.
