A reflection on Surah Al-Insan 76:11-14 - the joy, security, and honour Allah (SWT) promises for sincere patience.
Patience through a difficult stretch of memorisation rarely feels rewarding while it is happening. Surah Al-Insan promises our students at Darus Saulieghien Quraan Academy that Allah (SWT) never overlooks that patience.
Protection Before Comfort
Before mentioning Paradise, food, or comfort, Allah (SWT) mentions something more fundamental:
فَوَقَىٰهُمُ ٱللَّهُ شَرَّ ذَٰلِكَ ٱلْيَوْمِ وَلَقَّىٰهُمْ نَضْرَةً وَسُرُورًا
"So Allāh will protect them from the evil of that Day and give them radiance and happiness" (Surah Al-Insan 76:11)
The righteous feared the Day of Judgment while giving charity and fulfilling their commitments. Now Allah (SWT) grants them exactly what they hoped for, safety, along with radiance on their faces and joy in their hearts.
Reward Tied to Patience, Not Ease
The next verse is deliberate in its wording:
وَجَزَىٰهُم بِمَا صَبَرُوا۟ جَنَّةً وَحَرِيرًا
"And will reward them for what they patiently endured [with] a garden [in Paradise] and silk [garments]." (Surah Al-Insan 76:12)
They are rewarded for their perseverance, not because life was easy, but because they remained steadfast despite it being hard. The Prophet (SAW) said: "On the Day of Resurrection, Allah will say: 'Where are those who loved one another for My sake? Today I will shade them in My shade on a Day when there is no shade but Mine.'" (Sahih Muslim 2566)
The Long Stretches Are Not Wasted
We want our students to know that the difficult weeks of revision, the discipline shown without recognition, is exactly the kind of patience this ayah rewards. Nothing endured sincerely for Allah (SWT) is ever lost.
