A reflection on Surah Al-Mulk 67:25 - the demand for proof on a timeline of our own choosing.
Doubt often expresses itself as a demand for proof, delivered immediately and on our own terms. Surah Al-Mulk records exactly this kind of challenge, and the response that follows is a lesson in patience we try to model for our students at Darus Saulieghien Quraan Academy.
A Demand for Certainty Now
وَيَقُولُونَ مَتَىٰ هَـٰذَا ٱلْوَعْدُ إِن كُنتُمْ صَـٰدِقِينَ ٢٥
"And they say, 'When is this promise, if you should be truthful?'" (Surah Al-Mulk 67:25)
The disbelievers mock the warning of the Hereafter by demanding to know exactly when it will arrive, as though delay proves it false. This is a familiar pattern of doubt: if something has not happened yet, it must not be true.
Trusting What We Cannot Yet See
The believer's response to unseen matters is different. Trust in Allah's (SWT) promise does not depend on being shown proof on our own schedule. The same patience applies closer to home, in waiting for a du'a to be answered or a difficulty to lift.
We try to help our students sit with this kind of patience, especially in their Hifz journey, where the reward for consistency is not always visible today, but remains certain with Allah (SWT).
May Allah (SWT) grant our students and their families certainty in what is promised, even during the waiting, and may He never let doubt take root where trust should be. Ameen.
