When Allah's Wisdom Is Hidden From Us: Musa and Khidr

Not every difficulty in life comes with an explanation attached. Surah Al-Kahf addresses this directly through the story of Musa (AS) and Khidr, a story we find ourselves returning to whenever a student or parent at Darus Saulieghien Quraan Academy faces something painful that makes no sense at the time.

A Prophet Who Did Not Yet Understand

قَالَ لَهُۥ مُوسَىٰ هَلْ أَتَّبِعُكَ عَلَىٰٓ أَن تُعَلِّمَنِ مِمَّا عُلِّمْتَ رُشْدًا
"Moses said to him, "May I follow you on [the condition] that you teach me from what you have been taught of sound judgement?"" (Al-Kahf 18:66)

Musa (AS), a Prophet of great knowledge, approached Khidr with humility: "May I follow you, provided that you teach me some of the right guidance you have been taught?" What followed were three events, a damaged boat, a young life taken, a wall repaired for the ungrateful, that appeared unjust to Musa (AS) at every step.

Only afterward did Khidr explain: the damaged boat had saved poor sailors from a tyrant, the boy had been spared from leading his believing parents into disbelief, and the wall protected a treasure meant for orphans still too young to claim it. What looked like harm was mercy in disguise.

Trusting What We Cannot Yet See

The Prophet (SAW) taught us to respond to hardship by saying, "Qaddarallahu wa ma sha'a fa'al" (Allah decreed, and what He wills, He does), rather than dwelling on "what if." (Sahih Muslim 2664) He also said, "If Allah wants to do good to somebody, He afflicts him with trials." (Sahih al-Bukhari 5645)

What We Tell Our Families

Faith does not mean understanding every chapter of our lives while we are living it. It means trusting that the One who decrees is Most Wise, even when His wisdom stays hidden until much later, if it is ever revealed to us at all.

May Allah (SWT) grant our students and their families patience with what they cannot yet understand, and clarity when He wills to give it. Ameen.
