Why Surah Al-Fatihah's central request is for guidance, not wealth or ease, and what that teaches DSQA students.
After affirming worship and reliance, Surah Al-Fatihah finally makes its request, and it is not for wealth, ease, or worldly success. At Darus Saulieghien Quraan Academy we ask our students: of everything you could ask Allah (SWT) for, why does the Qur'an teach us to ask for this first?
Guidance, Not Merely Direction
ٱهْدِنَا ٱلصِّرَٰطَ ٱلْمُسْتَقِيمَ
"Guide us to the straight path." (Surah Al-Fatihah 1:6)
Ihdina is not asking for information about where the path is, it is asking to be walked upon it, kept upon it, and helped along it. Even the most sincere believer, already guided to Islam, repeats this request constantly, because guidance is not a single event. It is something the heart needs renewed every single day.
Why Students Recite This So Often
A student partway through memorising the Qur'an is, in a very real sense, walking a straight path already, and still needs this du'a as much as anyone. Consistency in Hifz, in character, in worship, is itself a form of guidance being lived out. We remind our students that asking for guidance seventeen times a day is not repetition without purpose, it is a heart that refuses to assume it has arrived.
