A reflection on Surah Al-Hajj 22:27 - the timeless call to Hajj issued through Prophet Ibrahim (AS) and answered by pilgrims to this day.
Every year, our students hear stories of Hajj from parents, teachers, or relatives who have made the journey, and every year we remind them that this call, issued thousands of years ago, is still being answered today.
A Call Placed in Every Believer's Heart
وَأَذِّن فِى ٱلنَّاسِ بِٱلْحَجِّ يَأْتُوكَ رِجَالًا وَعَلَىٰ كُلِّ ضَامِرٍ يَأْتِينَ مِن كُلِّ فَجٍّ عَمِيقٍ
"And proclaim to the people the ḥajj [pilgrimage]; they will come to you on foot and on every lean camel; they will come from every distant pass -" (Surah Al-Hajj 22:27)
Allah (SWT) commanded Ibrahim (AS) to proclaim to mankind the Hajj, that they will come to him on foot and on every lean camel, arriving from every distant pass. This single command echoes across centuries, drawing millions to answer a call they never personally heard spoken.
Intention Before Action
The Prophet (SAW) said: "Actions are only by intentions, and every person will have only what they intended..." (Sahih al-Bukhari 1) This hadith reminds every believer, whether preparing for Hajj or preparing for a day of Hifz, that sincerity behind the action is what gives it its true worth.
We hope our students grow up longing to answer this call themselves one day, with hearts as sincere as their intentions. May Allah (SWT) make Hajj possible for our students and their families, and accept it from them when it comes. Ameen.
