A reflection on Surah Al-Baqarah 2:127 - Ibrahim and Isma'il raising the foundations of the Kaaba, and the humility behind every act of worship.
Every good deed, however great, is only as valuable as its acceptance by Allah (SWT). That is the lesson behind one of the most consequential moments in Islamic history, and one we want our students at Darus Saulieghien Quraan Academy to carry into their own worship, including their Hifz.
A Father, a Son, and a Du'a
وَإِذْ يَرْفَعُ إِبْرَٰهِـۧمُ ٱلْقَوَاعِدَ مِنَ ٱلْبَيْتِ وَإِسْمَـٰعِيلُ رَبَّنَا تَقَبَّلْ مِنَّآ ۖ إِنَّكَ أَنتَ ٱلسَّمِيعُ ٱلْعَلِيمُ
"And [mention] when Abraham was raising the foundations of the House and [with him] Ishmael, [saying], "Our Lord, accept [this] from us. Indeed, You are the Hearing, the Knowing." (Al-Baqarah 2:127)
Years after leaving Hajar and Isma'il (AS) in the desert, Ibrahim (AS) returned to raise the foundations of the Kaaba, this time with his son beside him, older and ready to help. As they lifted each stone, their du'a was not pride in the achievement but a plea: "Our Lord, accept this from us. You are indeed the All-Hearing, All-Knowing." (Surah Al-Baqarah 2:127)
Even while building the House of Allah (SWT) itself, they did not assume it was enough unless He accepted it.
Acceptance, Not Just Accomplishment
The Prophet (SAW) once said he would have loved to rebuild the Kaaba on Ibrahim's (AS) original foundations, had it not risked confusing the newly Muslim Quraysh. (Sahih al-Bukhari 1585) The sanctity of that structure traces back entirely to this moment of humble, uncertain du'a.
What This Means for Our Students' Worship
When a student completes a juz', seals a surah, or finishes a difficult page of revision, we encourage them to echo Ibrahim's (AS) words: "Rabbana taqabbal minna," our Lord, accept this from us. The deed matters, but its acceptance by Allah (SWT) matters more.
May Allah (SWT) accept every act of worship our students offer, from their prayers to their Hifz, the way He accepted the Kaaba raised by Ibrahim (AS) and Isma'il (AS). Ameen.
