A reflection on Surah Al-Hadid 57:4-6 - Allah's (SWT) dominion over the heavens and earth, and His constant awareness of every heart.
When our students at Darus Saulieghien Quraan Academy memorise a page late at night or early before Fajr, we remind them of something simple but powerful: Allah (SWT) is watching that quiet effort even when no one else sees it. Surah Al-Hadid opens with exactly this truth.
He Is With You Wherever You Are
"It is He who created the heavens and earth in six days and then established Himself above the Throne. He knows what penetrates into the earth and what emerges from it and what descends from the heaven and what ascends therein; and He is with you wherever you are. And Allāh, of what you do, is Seeing. His is the dominion of the heavens and earth. And to Allāh are returned [all] matters. He causes the night to enter the day and causes the day to enter the night, and He is Knowing of that within the breasts." (Surah Al-Hadid 57:4-6)
Allah (SWT) describes His dominion over the heavens and the earth, His knowledge of what enters the ground and what comes out of it, what descends from the sky and what ascends to it, and then adds the ayah that believers often carry closest to their hearts: He is with us wherever we are, seeing all that we do.
Awareness That Comforts and Corrects
This knowledge is not meant to frighten a believer into anxiety. It is meant to steady the heart. The Prophet (SAW) said: "Be mindful of Allah, and He will protect you. Be mindful of Allah, and you will find Him before you. If you ask, ask Allah. If you seek help, seek help from Allah." (Jami' al-Tirmidhi 2516) Knowing that Allah (SWT) sees the hidden effort is what makes a private act of worship, a page revised alone, a du'a made quietly, carry its full weight.
We try to build this awareness into our students from an early age: that consistency in the unseen moments is exactly what Allah (SWT) values. May Allah (SWT) make us mindful of Him in private as much as in public, and may He reward every hidden effort our students make in His path. Ameen.
