A reflection on Surah Ghafir 40:8 - the angels' request that believers be reunited with their righteous parents, spouses, and children in Paradise.
Faith is rarely something lived by one person alone. It ripples through a family, a parent's du'a, an older sibling's example, a grandparent's patience, and the Qur'an shows us that Allah (SWT) honours exactly this kind of shared journey.
A Family Reunion the Angels Ask For
Among the angels' supplications is this one:
رَبَّنَا وَأَدْخِلْهُمْ جَنَّـٰتِ عَدْنٍ ٱلَّتِى وَعَدتَّهُمْ وَمَن صَلَحَ مِنْ ءَابَآئِهِمْ وَأَزْوَٰجِهِمْ وَذُرِّيَّـٰتِهِمْ
"Our Lord, and admit them to gardens of perpetual residence which You have promised them and whoever was righteous among their forefathers, their spouses and their offspring." (Surah Ghafir 40:8)
Even when family members differ in their level of righteousness, Allah's (SWT) mercy is generous enough to raise them together. The Prophet (SAW) taught, "When a servant of Allah prays for his brother in his absence, the angels say: 'Ameen, and may you have the same.'" (Sahih Muslim 2732)
Building a Legacy of Du'a
We encourage our families to make du'a not only for their own children's Hifz journey, but for the generations to come, that the effort a family invests today in raising a hafidh of the Qur'an carries forward, echoed by the angels' own supplication.
