He Is Sufficient for Them: The Weight We Were Never Meant to Carry

24 December 2026

A reflection on Surah At-Talaq 65:3 - tawakkul as active trust, not passive waiting, for anyone carrying more worry than their heart can hold.

Anxiety about the future is something we see in our older students as much as in the parents who trust us with their children's education. Surah At-Talaq offers a short but powerful remedy: tawakkul, trust in Allah (SWT).

Sufficient for Whoever Trusts Him

"And will provide for him from where he does not expect. And whoever relies upon Allāh - then He is sufficient for him. Indeed, Allāh will accomplish His purpose. Allāh has already set for everything a [decreed] extent." (At-Talaq 65:3)

"And whoever relies upon Allah, then He is sufficient for him." (Surah At-Talaq 65:3) Tawakkul is not passive resignation. It means doing your best, then releasing the outcome to the One who never fails.

The Prophet (SAW) said, "If you were to rely upon Allah with true reliance, you would be provided for as the birds are: they go out hungry in the morning and return full in the evening." (Sunan al-Tirmidhi 2344) Notice the birds still fly out. They act, then trust.

Release, Not Withdrawal

True tawakkul does not mean we stop planning our lessons, preparing for exams, or working toward a goal. It means entrusting Allah (SWT) with what was never truly in our control to begin with.

What We Try to Model for Our Students

When a student is anxious before a test of memorisation, we encourage the same posture: prepare fully, then say sincerely, "Ya Allah, You are enough for me," and let go of the outcome.

May Allah (SWT) lift the weight our students and their families were never meant to carry alone, and may He be sufficient for every need they bring to Him. Ameen.
