Closing our reflection on the life of Ibrahim (AS) - Surah Al-An'am 6:161 and the call to follow 'the religion of Ibrahim' in our own lives.
Having walked through the fire, the desert, the sacrifice, and the building of the Kaaba, we close our reflection on Ibrahim (AS) the way the Qur'an itself closes it: with a direct call to follow his example, not merely admire it. It is the lesson we most want our students at Darus Saulieghien Quraan Academy to carry forward.
Follow the Religion of Ibrahim
إِنَّ إِبْرَٰهِيمَ كَانَ أُمَّةً قَانِتًا لِّلَّهِ حَنِيفًا وَلَمْ يَكُ مِنَ ٱلْمُشْرِكِينَ
"Indeed, Abraham was a [comprehensive] leader, devoutly obedient to Allāh, inclining toward truth, and he was not of those who associate others with Allāh." (An-Nahl 16:120)
Allah (SWT) commands the Prophet (SAW), and through him every believer, to "follow the religion of Ibrahim, inclining toward truth." Ibrahim's (AS) Islam was defined by turning away from inherited falsehood, complete surrender in the fire and the sacrifice, and hope stretched across generations he would never meet.
The Prophet (SAW) said, "Allah has taken me as a Khalil (close friend), just as He took Ibrahim as a Khalil." (Sahih Muslim 532) The connection between these two Prophets runs through every prayer we make that includes salawat upon them both.
A Mirror, Not Just a Memory
When we read of Ibrahim (AS) breaking idols, we are meant to examine our own quiet attachments. When we read of him walking away from comfort, we are invited to walk away from whatever distances us from Allah (SWT). His story is not only history; it is an invitation.
What We Ask of Our Students
We encourage our students to choose one trait of Ibrahim (AS), trust, patience, courage, or sincerity in du'a, and live it deliberately this week, however small the act.
May Allah (SWT) write our students among those who walk the surrendered path of Ibrahim (AS), the Friend of Allah, and may He gather us with him on the Day all believers are raised. Ameen.
