A reflection on Surah Al-Mulk 67:12 - why the taqwa Allah (SWT) rewards most is the kind no one else ever sees.
After several ayat describing consequence and regret, Surah Al-Mulk turns to something gentler - a description of the believer whose fear of Allah (SWT) is real precisely because no one is watching.
Sincerity Unseen by People
Allah (SWT) says:
إِنَّ ٱلَّذِينَ يَخْشَوْنَ رَبَّهُم بِٱلْغَيْبِ لَهُم مَّغْفِرَةٌ وَأَجْرٌ كَبِيرٌ
"Indeed, those who fear their Lord unseen will have forgiveness and great reward." (Surah Al-Mulk 67:12)
This is taqwa rooted in faith rather than fear of people's opinion - the kind of hidden fear of Allah (SWT) that leads to forgiveness and immense reward, because it comes from an unseen moral compass rather than a public performance.
Integrity Where No One Is Looking
We ask our students to reflect honestly here: is there a standard of conduct kept up in public that quietly slips in private? This ayah teaches that reward is proportional to sincerity, and that the version of ourselves we are when no one else is watching is the one that matters most before Allah (SWT).
May Allah (SWT) make our private conduct as sincere as our public one, and grant us the reward promised to those who fear Him unseen. Ameen.
