A reflection on Surah Al-Waqi'ah 56:1-3 - why the Day of Judgment is described not as a possibility, but as an event that will certainly take place.

Not a Possibility, But a Certainty
Allah (SWT) says:
إِذَا وَقَعَتِ الْوَاقِعَةُ ١ لَيْسَ لِوَقْعَتِهَا كَاذِبَةٌ ٢ خَافِضَةٌ رَّافِعَةٌ ٣
"When the Occurrence occurs, there is, at its occurrence, no denial. It will bring down [some] and raise up [others]." (Surah Al-Waqi'ah 56:1-3)
Allah (SWT) does not say if this event occurs; He says when. The Day of Resurrection is not a distant idea, it is a reality every person will witness. On that Day, the standards this world uses to measure success, wealth, status, reputation, will no longer apply. Those who humbled themselves before Allah (SWT) may be raised in rank, while those who were arrogant may find themselves brought low.
A Reminder for Every Passing Day
Abu Huraira (RA) reported the Prophet (SAW) as saying: "Allah, the Exalted and Glorious, will take in His grip the Earth on the Day of Judgment, and He will roll up the sky in His right hand and will say: 'I am the Lord; where are the sovereigns of the world?'" (Sahih Muslim 2787) Even the mountains, among the strongest features of creation, will not remain fixed on that Day.
We remind our students that every page memorised, every act of good character built now, is preparation for a meeting that is not a possibility but a certainty.
May Allah (SWT) grant our students an easy reckoning on the Day this surah describes, and prepare their hearts well before it arrives. Ameen.
