A reflection on Surah Ar-Rum 30:21 - the three gifts Allah (SWT) places between spouses, and why a stable home matters for the families we serve.
The homes our students return to each afternoon shape their Islamic upbringing as much as anything we teach at Darus Saulieghien Quraan Academy. Marriage, in the Qur'an, is described in terms that explain why a stable home matters so much.
Sakinah, Mawaddah, Rahmah
"And of His signs is that He created for you from yourselves mates that you may find tranquility in them; and He placed between you affection and mercy. Indeed in that are signs for a people who give thought." (Ar-Rum 30:21)
Allah (SWT) describes marriage as a sign: spouses given for tranquility, with affection and mercy placed between them. These are not accidents of chemistry; they are spiritual gifts cultivated through faith, patience, and deliberate effort.
The Prophet (SAW) said, "The best of you are those who are best to their wives, and I am the best of you to my wives." (Sunan Ibn Majah 1977) He measured excellence not by who was most obeyed, but by who was kindest at home.
Tension Is Not Failure
The Qur'an is honest that marriage includes moments of difficulty: "you dislike something, yet Allah brings through it much good." Tranquility does not mean the absence of friction; it means a bond strong enough to hold through it.
Why This Matters to Us
A child's sense of security, their consistency in salah, their patience through the long work of Hifz, is nurtured first at home. When parents build their marriage around seeking Allah's pleasure together, that steadiness reaches their children too.
May Allah (SWT) bless the homes of our students with sakinah, mawaddah, and rahmah, and may that peace carry into every child's own journey with the Qur'an. Ameen.
