A reflection on Surah Al-Mu'minun 23:1-2 - the Prophet's (SAW) description of Salah as 'the comfort of my eyes', and what that means for how children experience it.
Salah was never meant to feel like a weight to carry. At Darus Saulieghien Quraan Academy, we hope our students come to know prayer the way the Prophet (SAW) described it himself, as comfort, not obligation alone.
Success Through Humility in Prayer
Allah (SWT) says:
قَدْ أَفْلَحَ ٱلْمُؤْمِنُونَ ٱلَّذِينَ هُمْ فِى صَلَاتِهِمْ خَـٰشِعُونَ
"Certainly will the believers have succeeded: they who are during their prayer humbly intent." (Surah Al-Mu'minun 23:1-2)
Success here is tied to the heart's presence in Salah, not only its outward correctness.
The Comfort of the Eyes
The Prophet (SAW) said: "My comfort has been made in prayer." (Sunan an-Nasa'i 3940) A prayer that begins with "Allahu Akbar," Allah is greater, and ends with salam, peace, is emotionally designed to carry a person from worry toward calm.
Building Warm Memories Around Prayer
We encourage families to let Salah carry small, ordinary joys, a favourite prayer mat, a short surah recited together, a child allowed to lead a rak'ah on their own terms. What a child remembers years later is rarely the correctness of the movements. It is the warmth of the moment.
May Allah (SWT) make Salah the comfort of our students' eyes, just as it was for the Prophet (SAW). Ameen.
