A reflection on Surah Al-Falaq 113:1 and 65:3 - how seeking refuge in Allah (SWT) and relying upon Him work together to replace fear with trust.
Fear on its own is not a flaw; it is part of being human, and our students at Darus Saulieghien Quraan Academy feel it too, before a test, before a difficult conversation, before an uncertain outcome. What matters is where that fear leads. Surah Al-Falaq, having named several sources of harm, turns finally to the heart's response.
Refuge and Reliance, Hand in Hand
Seeking refuge in Allah (SWT) is not a single act said once and forgotten; it is paired with tawakkul, trust that strengthens the heart from within. Allah (SWT) says:
وَمَن يَتَوَكَّلْ عَلَى اللَّهِ فَهُوَ حَسْبُهُ ۚ
"And whoever relies upon Allah, then He is sufficient for him." (Surah At-Talaq 65:3)
And elsewhere: "Say, 'Never will we be struck except by what Allah has decreed for us; He is our protector.' And upon Allah let the believers rely." (Surah At-Tawbah 9:51) True security does not come from controlling every outcome; it comes from trusting the One who already controls them.
Trust Does Not Replace Effort
This does not mean abandoning precaution. The Prophet (SAW) reminded a young companion: "...if the Ummah gathered together to benefit you with something, they would not benefit you except with what Allah had already written for you..." (Jami' al-Tirmidhi 2516) - a reminder that outcomes rest with Allah (SWT) even when we take every sensible step.
We encourage our students to hold both together: revise consistently, prepare properly, and then release the outcome to Allah (SWT) rather than carrying it as fear.
May Allah (SWT) replace every fear in our students' hearts with trust in Him, and make Him sufficient for them in every matter. Ameen.
