A reflection on Surah Ar-Rum 30:21 and Surah Ibrahim 14:7 - how gratitude and small daily acts sustain a peaceful home.
A peaceful home is rarely built by a single grand gesture. It is built, ayah after ayah teaches us, in small daily moments, which is exactly the kind of steadiness we hope surrounds our students at Darus Saulieghien Quraan Academy outside school hours too.
Gifts That Must Be Sustained
وَمِنْ ءَايَـٰتِهِۦٓ أَنْ خَلَقَ لَكُم مِّنْ أَنفُسِكُمْ أَزْوَٰجًا لِّتَسْكُنُوٓا۟ إِلَيْهَا وَجَعَلَ بَيْنَكُم مَّوَدَّةً وَرَحْمَةً ۚ إِنَّ فِى ذَٰلِكَ لَـَٔايَـٰتٍ لِّقَوْمٍ يَتَفَكَّرُونَ
"And of His signs is that He created for you from yourselves mates that you may find tranquility in them; and He placed between you affection and mercy. Indeed in that are signs for a people who give thought." (Ar-Rum 30:21)
Allah (SWT) describes love and mercy between spouses as gifts He "placed" in the relationship, gifts sustained through gratitude and worship rather than automatic feelings. The Prophet (SAW) nurtured love through the smallest acts: sharing a meal from one bowl, gentle nicknames, mending his own clothes. None of these are grand gestures, yet together they build a home.
Gratitude Multiplies Blessing
وَإِذْ تَأَذَّنَ رَبُّكُمْ لَئِن شَكَرْتُمْ لَأَزِيدَنَّكُمْ ۖ وَلَئِن كَفَرْتُمْ إِنَّ عَذَابِى لَشَدِيدٌ
"And [remember] when your Lord proclaimed, 'If you are grateful, I will surely increase you [in favor]; but if you deny, indeed, My punishment is severe.'"" (Ibrahim 14:7)
"If you are grateful, I will surely increase you [in favour]." (Surah Ibrahim 14:7) A family that notices and voices gratitude, for each other, for their circumstances, invites more of Allah's blessing into their home.
The Prophet (SAW) said, "The most complete of the believers in faith are those with the best character, and the best of you are those who are best to their women." (Sunan al-Tirmidhi 1162)
What This Means for Our Community
The tranquility a child experiences at home shapes how patiently they approach their Hifz, how they treat their classmates, and how they understand their own faith. Small, consistent acts of gratitude and gentleness in the home are, in this sense, part of a child's Islamic education too.
May Allah (SWT) fill the homes of our students with sakinah, and may that peace nurture every child's love for the Qur'an. Ameen.
