Surah Al-Fatihah 1:2 places praise before petition - what that order teaches DSQA students about gratitude.
After the Basmala, Surah Al-Fatihah moves straight to praise. Not a request, not a complaint, but gratitude, and this order matters. At Darus Saulieghien Quraan Academy we try to instil the same instinct in our students: before asking Allah (SWT) for anything, recognise what He has already given.
Praise Before Petition
ٱلْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ رَبِّ ٱلْعَـٰلَمِينَ
"[All] praise is [due] to Allah, Lord of the worlds." (Surah Al-Fatihah 1:2)
Ar-Rabb, translated here as "Lord", carries the meaning of the One who nurtures, sustains, and provides for everything in existence, not only human beings but every world and every creature within it. Praise belongs to Him alone because everything traces back to His care.
Gratitude as the Starting Point
A student memorising the Qur'an learns quickly that the ability to memorise at all is itself a blessing from Ar-Rabb al-Alameen, not something owed to talent or effort alone. We remind our students that this ayah is recited seventeen times a day precisely so that gratitude never becomes an afterthought, it comes first, before every du'a that follows.
May Allah (SWT), Lord of all the worlds, accept the praise of our students and increase them in the blessings they are grateful for. Ameen.
