Where Do Our Priorities Lie? A Reflection on Supporting Islamic Education:
When Madaris becomes a secondary concern, weโre not just neglecting schools, we’re neglecting a trust given to us by Allah.
In a time when consumerism reigns and our resources are often channeled into fleeting luxuries, we, as an Ummah, must pause and reflect on our true priorities. It is all too common to see immense spending on personal comfortsโgadgets, clothes, lavish eventsโwhile hesitance greets even the smallest request for donations to our Madaris, the very institutions that nurture our Islamic identity and our future leaders.
This imbalance is not merely financial; it is a mirror to our mindset. What we fund shows what we value. When Islamic education becomes a secondary concern, weโre not just neglecting madaris – we’re compromising our future. Institutions like the Darus Saulieghien Quraan Academy (DSQA) are not just places of learning; they are beacons of Islam: Quran, Sunnah and Islamic Tarbiyah.
DSQA embodies a โQuraan-firstโ ethos, focusing 70% of its daily curriculum on Islamic sciences including Tahfidth-Al-Quran, Fiqh, Sunnah, and spiritual practices like Thikr and Nasheed. These are not optional extrasโthey are essential foundations for forming strong Muslim identities. DSQA’s mission extends beyond individual growth to community upliftment, preparing students not only academically but as spiritually-grounded leadersโโโ.
And yet, like many such institutions, DSQA operates under serve financial strain. Teachers are underpaid, infrastructure is stretched, and dreams of expansion are hindered by lack of funds. This reflects a painful truth: while we proudly invest in sports clubs, tutors, and secular schools, we pause at the madrassahโs call. This pause is revealing โ it tells of misplaced values, where the eternal is treated as optional.
But Deen is not optional. Our childrenโs future understanding of Islam, their connection to Allah, their moral compass โ it all hinges on the support we provide today. Every donation to a madrassah like DSQA is not just charity; it’s community-building, it’s safeguarding identity, it’s investing in the Aakhirah.
Let us not be the generation that got distracted. Let us be the one that rebuilt and reinforced. Let us honor what deserves honor.
Support Madaris. Support DSQA. Fund the future leaders, fund your kids’ tarbiyah and growth.
